🚗 Prepare for the Unexpected: Build Your Car Emergency Kit

With winter weather already showing up across Finney County, LiveWell encourages residents to assemble a well-stocked car emergency kit inspired by American Red Cross recommendations. Essentials include:

  • First aid kit 🩹

  • Jumper cables 🔌

  • Flashlight 🔦

  • Basic tools 🔧

  • Warm blankets 🛏️

  • Food and water 🍫💧

  • Gloves 🧤

  • Rain gear ☔

  • A shovel ⛄

  • Sand or cat litter for traction 🐾

  • Duct tape 📏

  • Cash 💵

  • Phone charger or power bank 📱

Keeping your kit updated a few times a year helps ensure you’re ready for unexpected roadside emergencies.

🩺 November Is American Diabetes Month

Diabetes continues to be a major health issue nationwide and in Kansas. About 10% of Kansas adults—nearly 257,900 people—have diagnosed diabetes, with 17,000 new cases identified each year. Diabetes significantly increases the risk for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and contributes to an estimated $3.3 billion in annual healthcare and productivity costs in Kansas. Residents are encouraged to check their risk for prediabetes and explore local prevention resources.

🌱 Soil to Sky: Radical Hope for Kansas’s Food Future

Heather and Callie recently attended the “Soil to Sky” gathering hosted by the Kansas Food Action Network. The event brought together leaders from across the state to discuss progress and possibilities for building healthier, more equitable food systems. They returned inspired by the shared stories, new connections, and statewide commitment to improving Kansas’s food future.
